Legion Baseball sees registration increase in 2016

There will be 3,786 American Legion Baseball teams taking the field in 2016, as registration closed on Wednesday.

June 1 marked the deadline to sign up teams for the 2016 Legion Baseball season and this year’s registration numbers showed an increase from the previous year’s.

“It is a great testament to the hard work and dedication from our staff and volunteers to see our registration numbers up,” said Legion Baseball Committee Chairman Gary Stone. “Many programs are seeing their numbers decline due to the changing landscape in youth sports so we are incredibly proud to see Legion Baseball trending upward.”

A total of 28 states exceeded or reached last year’s totals, led by Minnesota’s 341 teams, which is up 22 from 2015.

“We pride ourselves on being more than just a baseball program,” Stone continued. “We are excited that more young men and women will have the opportunity to learn important life lessons through Legion Baseball in 2016 and beyond.”

June 25 marks the deadline for registered teams to submit their rosters at www.baseball.legion.org.
