Legion Baseball registration surpasses 2,500 teams as deadline nears

Coaches looking to register for the 2017 American Legion Baseball season are running out of time to participate in the program’s 92nd season.

At the conclusion of April, over 2,500 teams across the nation have signed up to play American Legion Baseball. May 15 marks the national deadline to register online and purchase insurance for 2017 season without a late fee.

Registration is necessary for the opportunity to earn a spot at the American Legion World Series in Shelby, N.C., Aug. 10-15.

Each August, more than 100,000 spectators attend the six-day event, which is also broadcast on ESPNU and ESPN3.

“One of the best aspects of American Legion Baseball is that teams have a chance to play for a championship,” said Gary Stone, chairman of the American Legion Baseball Committee. “It is great to see the strong registration numbers indicating that thousands of young people will have a chance to showcase their talents in Shelby this year.”

Departments may have different policies for registration and coaches are advised to contact their department’s baseball chairman for additional information.

Teams may register at baseball.legion.org.
