2018 American Legion World Series awards announced

Following the 2018 American Legion World Series, won by Wilmington, Del., Post 1, major awards were announced.

Denise Rohan, national commander of The American Legion, presented the awards on the field at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, N.C., following the nationally televised championship game on ESPNU.

Chris Ludman, who pitched a shutout in the championship game to help earn the state of Delaware’s first-ever American Legion World Series title, earned the top award.

Awards are for performances in regional and World Series play.

The winners are as follows:

James F. Daniel Jr. Memorial Sportsmanship Award - Sam Goodman of Dubuque County, Iowa Post 137

Bob Feller Pitching Award - Jimmy Gambino of Las Vegas Post 40 (25 strikeouts)

Dr. Irvin “Click” Cowger RBI Award – Bryce Marsh of Randolph Co., N.C. Post 45 (15 RBIs)

American Legion Baseball Slugger Award - Sam Link of Dubuque County, Iowa Post 137 (.555 batting average)

American Legion Baseball Big Stick Award – Austin Colmery of Wilmington, Del., Post 1 (21 total bases)

Jack Williams Memorial Leadership Award – Wilmington, Del., Post 1 coaching staff
