Legion participating in first VOWS conference

The American Legion will take part in the inaugural Veterans on Wall Street (VOWS) Conference & Hiring Fair at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York City today.

Joe Sharpe, the Legion's Economic director, looks forward to attending the VOWS event because, "It's a great opportunity for veterans who are trying to get back into the work force after serving their country. The Legion has an ongoing initiative to reduce unemployment among our young veterans, and participating in events like this fit right into our agenda."

Diane Price, the Legion's human resources director in Washington, will also be at VOWS to hand out applications for veterans who may be interested in working for the Legion, America's largest veterans service organization.

The conference will include more than 100 vendors, employers and veterans service organizations, and feature several workshops, including one that focuses on how veterans can promote the value of their military experience within the context of financial service careers.

Panel discussions include "Military 101" for human resources, diversity and recruiting professionals; "Wall Street 101" for transitioning veterans with an interest in finance careers; and "The Future of Private Equity in the 21st Century," for veterans currently employed in the financial services industry.

A roundtable discussion, "Value of a Veteran" is also scheduled for human resources, diversity and recruiting professionals.
