Registration open for annual Career Fair

The American Legion is welcoming veterans and servicemembers to its annual Hiring Our Heroes Career Fair in Washington on Feb. 23. The event, which coincides with the beginning of the Legion’s annual Washington Conference, will bring employers from the private and public sectors to the Washington Hilton from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to accept résumés, network with attendees and even give interviews on site.

Registration for the event is free and can be done electronically for the first time in event history. Attendees are only asked to bring copies of their résumés and come ready to network and interact with potential employers.

The Legion’s career fairs have a reputation for being successful. Around 30 veterans were hired at the job fair during the organization’s national convention in August, and even more veterans who attended were connected with employers in the days and months after.

This year’s Washington Conference career fair figures to produce similar results, as the Legion is partnering with RecruitMilitary to organize it. RecruitMilitary is a nonprofit organization which organizes veteran career fairs around the country. Employers they’ve brought in include Microsoft, Capital One, Home Depot and the Department of Energy. The Legion is always among that group.

Career counseling, résumé writing tips and other job-related services will also be available to attendees, provided by the Legion’s Economic Division and other organizations present at the fair.
