Legion participating in Chicago career fair

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with the Chicagoland and Illinois Chambers of Commerce to host an employment fair on March 28 for veterans, National Guardsman and reservists, and eligible spouses at the Hilton Chicago, 720 S. Michigan Ave. The American Legion is among the supporters of Hiring Our Heroes Career Expo and will have a presence there.

More than 200 veteran-seeking employers from the Chicago area and beyond will be represented, including Allstate Insurance Company, Cardinal Health, CBS Radio, Ernst & Young, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Illinois Department of Transportation, NAPA Auto Parts, Navistar Defense, U.S. Cellular and Walmart Stores, Inc.

American Legion Department of Illinois staff will have a booth at the job fair to share information on Legion programs, provide Temporary Financial Assistance applications and advise veterans of their potential VA benefits. Department Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation Director Wayne T. Macejak also will be on hand to provide information on filing VA claims. “We can even get power of attorney from veterans to file new claims or assist veterans with existing ones,” Macejak said.

The event also is receiving support from Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, DOL-Vets, Illinois Department of Employment Security and other veterans service organizations.

The employment fair is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free to job seekers and employers. Pre-registration is over, but walk-in veterans and spouses will be allowed in with proper identification
