New Jersey job fair invites Sandy victims

Veterans, servicemembers and their families are invited to attend a free Hiring Our Heroes career fair in Toms River, N.J., on Nov. 27 at George P. Vanderveer Post 129. The event will cater especially to individuals who are displaced or out of work in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

The usual features of an HOH career fair will be offered,  such as advanced résumé submission to employers, online registration, and networking and interviewing opportunities for long-term careers. But special attention will be given to the military population that has been adversely affected by the storm. In particular, there will be a focus on finding employers who can offer fill-in employment positions to veterans or servicemembers who might temporarily be out of work in the wake of the disaster.

This includes job opportunities in building, construction, clean-up and hauling, inspection and demolition. Businesses in these fields or any business that could offer temporary employment to displaced veterans are encouraged to register and attend through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes registration page.

The career fair is hosted by the Department of New Jersey and the U.S. Chamber, in coordination with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, the Departments of Labor and Veterans Affairs, NBC News, and the New Jersey Committee.

Attendance is free, and walk-ins are welcome. Though, attendees are encouraged to pre-register on the U.S. Chamber’s registration page to take advantage of the various pre-registration services.

The career fair will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
