Free job counseling in D.C. for veterans

A valuable, hands-on job counseling workshop is being offered in the nation’s capital to military veterans and their spouses from 8:30 a.m.-noon Jan. 24. The educational session will include personal counseling by more than two dozen human resources professionals who have volunteered to coach job seekers on résumé writing, job interview preparation, and the ins and outs of searching for a civilian job. The Department of Labor’s Veterans Employment and Training Service is participating in the workshop.

The "Giving Back to Veterans" event is being sponsored by Washington-based The OFCCP Institute. The institute educates federal contractor employers about affirmative action and anti-discrimination practices regulated by the Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, including affirmative action and anti-discrimination practices that affect veterans.

Technology giant Honeywell is hosting the event at its corporate office near the U.S. Capitol, located close to the Judiciary Square or Union Station Metro stations on the Red Line. Job-seeking veterans and spouses are required to register for the workshop. One-on-one employment counseling will be scheduled in half-hour sessions, so advance booking is important.
