Veterans job fair headed to Austin, Texas

Veterans, servicemembers and spouses are invited to a free career fair Sept. 24 in Austin, Texas, at the Omni Austin Southpark Hotel from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hosted by the Legion's Department of Texas, about 60 employers from the private and public sectors will be in attendance.

Attendees are encouraged to pre-register at WorkInTexas.com for the event, which coincides with the Department of Texas' department convention. Attendees should also come in business attire and bring copies of their resumes, as employers on hand will be evaluating job candidates and even hiring or interviewing on the spot.

Specifically, the career fair will cater to servicemembers and spouses at nearby Ft. Hood. About 12,000 soldiers leave the Army base each year to transition into civilian life. Since the Legion's highly successful job fair in Houston at its national convention in 2013, the organization has been interested in further serving the job-related needs of this population of transitioning servicemembers.

The Texas Veterans Commission and Texas Workforce Commission will join the Department of Texas as sponsors of the event.
