Mentorship program looking for veteran leaders of tomorrow

The Take Point Initiative is looking to mentor veterans who are 35 and younger and interested in becoming leaders in nonprofit or policy fields.

The Atlantic Council is currently accepting applications for its Take Point Initiative, a fellowship program that provides individualized guidance and mentorship to prepare young veterans for leadership positions in nonprofits or for policy-oriented entities, with a focus on international affairs or national security. In conjunction with the Bob Woodruff Foundation, the initiative pairs professional mentors with selected fellows in hopes of creating the next generation of veteran leaders and advocates.

Applications are due Nov. 10 at 11:59 p.m. EDT and should be emailed to yanapplications@acus.org.

Additionally, Take Point Initiative fellows will have a chance to compete for a $25,000 grant from the Atlantic Council which will help them fund a proposed nonprofit project. Candidates are selected based on their backgrounds and stated goals and visions for a successful nonprofit. At the culmination of the fellowship, fellows will pitch their nonprofit concepts to industry experts in a "nonprofit startup challenge" - the winner of which will receive the $25,000 seed funding.

The goal of the Take Point Initiative is twofold: it aims to develop the young veteran leaders of today so that they can provide a voice and advocacy for the veterans of tomorrow.

The American Legion supports the Take Point Initiative and its worthy goal of developing a new generation of veteran leaders. As a supporting partner, the Legion has provided its subject-matter expertise in the fields of policy and nonprofit veterans advocacy, and also helped developed the blueprint for the program.
