Largest National Legion College class gets underway Nov. 3

The largest-ever National American Legion College class will gather at American Legion National Headquarters in Indianapolis Nov. 3-8. The 57 Legionnaires will participate in the 20th consecutive session of National American Legion College with Past National Commander David Rehbein as their chancellor.

American Legion College is an opportunity for new and longtime Legionnaires to enhance their knowledge of the organization and its overall mission, learn ways to become an effective leader and mentor, and be challenged on real Legion issues. As a group, the students will meet in the National Executive Committee room on the fourth floor of the headquarters building to focus on training and engagement, and to hear from distinguished guest speaker American Legion National Commander James W. "Bill" Oxford.

A few training topics that the students will engage in throughout the week include:

• Developing your "why"

• Legion leadership vs. mentorship

• Organizational life cycles

• Creating a strategic plan

• National training initiatives

• Creating a department Legion College

• Buddy Checks

• Resolution writing and presentation

• Train the trainer

• Creating training videos

• Post-level conflict scenarios

• Emblem usage

On Nov. 8, the National American Legion College Class of 2019 will graduate.
