Commander: contact Washington to help National Guard

American Legion National Commander James W. “Bill” Oxford is calling on the entire American Legion Family to send email messages in support of National Guard personnel deployed in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic. The organization’s Legislative Action Center gives members and others an easy, secure way to send messages to the Senate and House Armed Services Committees to reverse plans to put a “hard stop” to National Guard deployments at 89 days, just one day short of the time necessary to be eligible for multiple veterans benefits.

To send a message urging lawmakers to call on the Department of Defense to extend National Guard deployments past 89 days, click this link, fill in the fields and hit “send message.”

Veterans are also urged to contact the White House directly at www.whitehouse.gov/contact.
