For months, The American Legion has warned lawmakers that $492 billion in automatic defense cuts – on top of $487 billion in cuts already planned – will hollow out the U.S. military, eliminate hundreds of thousands of jobs and cripple America’s ability to defend itself.

In an exclusive interview with The American Legion Magazine, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney says he’d reverse the nation’s course, wanting a U.S. military so strong that no nation would risk testing it.

“I am fully committed to strengthening America through our values, through a growing economy, and through a military that’s second to none,” Romney said. “I will not cut the military budget. I will instead expand our essential weapons programs and our (number of) active-duty personnel. I do these things not so that we have to fight wars, but so that we can prevent wars.”

The full interview will appear in the October issue of The American Legion Magazine and online at www.legion.org. In it, Romney addresses other concerns of the Legion, including the VA claims backlog, the U.S. military’s role in the Middle East, illegal immigration, America’s dependence on foreign energy resources, and how returning veterans can help in economic recovery.

Romney will do what ever is necessary to get elected President. He hasn't been too successful in making overseas friends in his travels to Great Britain, Isreal, or Poland. Remember three strikes and your OUT!

It will be easy to pay for more defense spending. Join me in support of abolihing all tax exempt organizations. Every one in america, including corporations, churches and the Legion should pay taxes based on gross income regardles of the source (sales or donations). Included in your income should be the subsidied health insurance premium your employer pays. What do you all say to this.

Just what this country needs. More airplanes, ships, and wars. Want to help the veterans? Fire all the Civil service employees working for the DOD and give their jobs to veterans working for defense contractors. They earned it. After all, as the Republicans say, the private sector does everything better than the government. And thats why Bush converted all the private sector airline security personnel to Federal employmnet. Oh, not a good example. Feel safer now? Romney should be able to complete the destruction of what remains of the middle class, which has been an on going class warfare for the past 30 years and the wealthy have won.

Who is going to pay for this expansion? It sure doesn't look like Romney and the plutocrats. They insist that they should not even pay the same percentage as the waitress down in the coffee shop. Where is he going to get the personell to expand with? Will any of his kids enlist, or, like Mitt, himself, will they duck out? Remember, Mitt took FOUR deferments. Even Chicken Georgie Bush served in th National Guard. Where will these new weapons come from, China? We make nothing here. Mitt is the king of outsourcing and putting factories out of business. What the Dems are holding out for is a deal whereby either we raise taxes on the rich, or we balance the budget by cutting some of the waste and war profiteering. I can go for that.

The thing about Romney is you cannot believe a word he says. What he says today he will flop around and say the complete opposite later. The main thing that bothers me with campaign promises is that too many people base their vote on them. What they seem to forget is that the President cannot really get anything done regarding campaign promises without approval from the House and Senate. The few voters that do get out need to start THINKING FOR THEMSELVES, and STOP LISTENING to all of the BS that gets put out through the media. To those that do not get out, SHAME ON YOU!!!! We all need to vote, and we all need to use our OWN MINDS instead of some other guy who is paid to tell us who to vote for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More planes, more ships? I'm sure Al Qaida and the Taliban are quaking in their boots. How much good has our super F-22 and F-35 fighters been in Iraq and Afghanistan? How about our 11 nuclear carrier task forces (10 more than any other nation)? No modern state is going to mess with us as it presently stands or in the future (We still have lots of ICBMs?). Instead of our tax dollars going to build more tanks, ships and planes, only to park them in some remote installation, think of how much more our nation would benefit spending that money on education, health care ans infrastructure.
