This was not a "State of the Union" address. Ir was a campaign speech, which we have haerd over and over.
I have been watching "State of the Union" addresses for over fifty (50) years and this was the worst ever.

..My thoughts following O's speech ~ Sad but true............
“The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their President.”

It was the same old tax and spend program that he promoted the last 4 years. He just got a tax increase and now wants more

Nothing we haven't heard from day one. One exception the socialist movemnet went into high gear. He will run rampant over the Congress without help through the TO many priveleges given his office. With GOP being history who will stop him.

The SOTU speech was nothing more than a campaign speech retread filled with half-truths and outright lies.
POTUS laid out the traditional Statist wishlist and falsely claimed his intended increased spending was not going to increase the deficit one bit. He falsely named Republicans as to blame for the impending sequestration when it was his idea in the first place. He falsely claimed Republicans were at fault for the economy when his Democrat aministration has increased the deficit more in his first four years than every other President in history combined, failed to require the Democrat controlled Senate provide a budget, as required by law, despite having the Republican controlled House of Representatives submitting their budget every year every year.
All in all, the President's SOTU speech was just more of the same old lies and petulance he has attempted to sell as a SOTU every year since being elected. Even Obama understands just how disengenuous his SOTU address was because were it factually believable and not advocating Statist infringment upon the US Constitution he wouldn't hae to immediately depart to campaign to get people to believe in and support his lies.

The President laid out a plan to create a Utopia Nation without a way to pay for it. Those who may be inspired by his oratory quickly forget that Utopia costs money and we are already well over our heads in debt.

I'm an independent voter so I don't have an axe to grind in either direction. The country is split in two so whatever the President does is either applauded or gets gets a negative reaction. The man did get elected so he will be President for 4 more years. The real truth is everything is somewhere in the middle. I'm interested in the country moving forward. In a democratic republic you win some and lose some. Sitting around waiting for your individual to get elected doesn't do the country any good as we have seen. We have to deal with reality and the people have spoken in an election whether we like it or not.
The speech was good I would say but like any speech a President makes it is up to Congress to act. One thing Congress has done is sit on their hands doing mostly nothing and just go from one crisis to another because many are more interested in taking down the President than they are in helping their country. Probably why the President did get elected and many voters saw right through what was going on. Many lived in some fantasy world thinking Romney would just walk into the White House because the previous 4 years were difficult ones. Considering where President Obama started from and the resistance he ran into he did a fairly good job. I think the speech was positive and like all speeches a bit political too.

beachboyron, Congress hasn't just been sitting on their hands as you stated. For the majority of the time, they've been trying to stop the downward spiral that this Country has been placed into. But to do this, you need to remove the disease not treat the symptoms. Once the disease is removed, the symptoms will go away as well. The re-election occurred due to the fact that America has gone from a 'producing' Country to one that imports everything. This reduces the number of available high value, high salary jobs. With the flood of illegal immigrants across our swiss cheese like border, those jobs that are still available go to those who are willing to work for a lower salary. Virtually any employer will hire an individual at a lower payrate, so that there is more money left in his/her pocket to sink back into keeping his business afloat. The number of Americans that are on some form of Government assistance has sky-rocketed in the last four years. The 'low information' voter is always going to vote for the one that promises them more money and benefits for not having to work harder to earn it.

How sad. The nation's leaders acting like jerks. The VP looked drunk and Boehner was bored and partisan. How wonderful it would be to have adult leadership not self interested members of a kleptocracy. Gridlock is a nice term for politicians only working for the wealthy donors. From the minority we get a token over his head. Billionaires are calling for a fairer tax system where they pay their fair share. Will they get it? No way. Bring home our troops and stop the nation building and arrogant drone strikes. If Russia was doing that we would be on the verge of war.

It was what I expected. A lot of outright lies.We simply cannot create a society that takes from some to give to others. It has never worked before and will not work now. We have to live within our means and we must remain strong in our defense. I am tired of this president, who talks a good game, but then does everything in his power to bring this country down.

The President and his administration, with too many other congresspersons, seem to be hell bent to grow Government by trampling our Constitution, saddling our economy-growing middle class with more taxes, reduction of benefits and increased spending. It is high time that We the People of the United States demand job performance worth of the several Offices and of their having been ELECTED TO OFFICE.
It is a matter of Public Record that more than a few of Our Forefathers, including General, then first President George Washington refused to accept pay a,d benefits for their Service to our fledgling Nation. Many sacrificed life and livelihood, as well as family, for the sake of our Independence, Constitution, Amendments and Bill of Rights. My daily prayer to the same God Whom out forefathers trusted for their decisions AFTER preaching and prayer (which activities lasted for HOURS before the opening or DAILY business) is for Congress to search and listen for God's Guidance and to be strong enough, with enough fortitude, to stand behind decisions to guide our once great Nation back onto the Godly path she once trod.
AMEN and AMEN!

I don't know what State of the Union message BEACHBOYRON listened to but it sure wasn't the one I watched!
Lies, lies and more lies fro this president!
I simply cannot trust anything he says to have any validity.
The economy is the #1 most important issue he should be addressing and he's not! Spending is out of control and more revenue (TAXES) won't fix it without very deep and long term consequences.

I haven't been able to believe the last several Presidents that we have had. They, both sides, promise some good sensible things but then little of that actually happens. What happens is that those who pay off the government get what they want, and those of us who just pay for government get the shaft. Both parties are killing this nation, but doing the rest of the world a favor. We are taking their unemployed, their overflow populations, their criminals and we are giving other countries foreign aid, military protection and more. Our leaders truly believes they are the world's government. They spend more time in congress talking about what they are going to do for other countries in the world and this means less time on the huge problems here. By the way why are we policing the world, when we can't even police our own nation? Did those other countries vote for this? Do they pay taxes to support it? Excuse me we can't afford it so we borrow the money to pay for it. Our leaders clearly have enlarged their responsibilites beyond the Constitutions limits. Its time to take care of business at home; if both parties are not up to it then why vote for them; its just more of the same failure with a different party name on it.

Read carefully what Cicero said:
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. BUT IT CANNOT SURVIVE TREASON FROM WITHIN. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But THE TRAITOR MOVES AMONGST THOSE WITHIN THE GATE FREELY, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of GOVERNMENT itself. FOR THE TRAITOR APPEARS NOT A TRAITOR; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, HE APPEALS TO THE BASENESS THAT LIES DEEP IN THE HEARTS OF ALL MEN. HE ROTS THE SOUL OF A NATION, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A MURDERER IS LESS TO FEAR. THE TRAITOR IS THE PLAGUE.”
Marcus Tullius Cicero

Spend, spend, spend- nothing new here to see, just more fodder for the low information voters. Worst point was the minimum wage increase to $9.00. Just a cursory look at historical data shows that every time the minimum wage was raised, youth unemployment climbed- and street violence increased. Obama has no idea how the economy works. Every increase in the cost of doing business gets passed on to the customer, increasing the COL, and according to him, the minimum wage should be tied to that index- thus creating a circular trap that further decays the economic engine that is the entrepreneurial spirit of the Americans.

I can sum it up in one word. POPPYCOCK !
Winston Churchill best sum up Obama's
hope and change program long ago. When he said,
"Socialism is a philosophy of failure,
the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy,
its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.."

Just more promises that will never be fulfilled. Spend more money we don't have and destroy the Armed Forces. Obama's My way or the Highway attitude has got to go if America is to survive. His Majesty must realize he is NOT a King and become a President which leads to America's recovery.

No spending cuts... just a decrease in the rate of increase. More programs we don't need or want, but we'll end up paying for them anyway. When is anyone in Washington going to open their eyes to the reality that you can't fix a problem by throwing money at it. If Congress truly wants to fix the state this Country is in, they need to get out of the way and let Main Street do what they do best... work, raise money, open businesses and create real jobs, not governmental agencies.

It seems like a lot of comments are being based on listening to only Fox News. It kind of reminds me of the folks at Romney HQ chanting Fox, Fox, Fox on election night because they didn't like the fact that CNN was calling the race for Obama. He can't be campaigning after all, because he has already been elected twice.
If the president failed at anything in his first term it was in not understanding just how recalcitrant the GOP has become since the common sense of Ronald Regan was replaced by the agenda of the neocons. The publicly stated primary goal of the GOP was to make Obama a one term President, at any cost. In spite of this, the naive young man from Hawaii actually tried to make compromises and has, in fact, moved more to the right politically than any Democrat in history.
I for one am glad that he told the nation that he will use executive orders to accomplish essential government functions rather than letting a minority of extremists hold the entire country hostage.

I feel we need to tariff all goods entering the Country to bring back Manufacturing & creat jobs , opertunity and technology nnd debit payment.
We need to limit imigration (migration), one million per year exceeds other countreies, they allow twenty or thirty thousand, we dont need imigrants, in the 30's we deported everyone we could to provide jobs for our people.

We need a ceiling price on gasoline.
We need to deport felons instead of supporting them in jails.
We need a Labor party to represent workers.
We need to close the Fed Bank it supports Corperate Socialism.
We need to make the Stock Exchange to pay dividends, not Bonuses.

Many of you have made partial truths about this SOU. He has never stopped campaigning. Nor has he stopped lying. Every times he has said ‘this is a investment in our future’ actually means higher taxes. Taking money for fewer and fewer people to give to an ever larger grope of people who do not produce/work. As most of you know he was re-elected by a very slim margin. And some election results are still in question. How does the military lose a majority of the absentee ballots before the election? How does a republican ahead by 1-15% minutes before the poles close and lose by 10%? The Senate has not conducted the business it was elected to do for the last several years – the budget. Instead they have become brainless lemmings. They are told to vote one way the party way regardless of what happens to the country. Congress is doing a little better but not by much. Pelosi still has the idea that her way is the best way and 95% of the democrats vote without thinking. They want to destroy our country as we know it. More power to the central government less power at the state and local level. Every time they start a program (with all the best of intentions-- that sounds good anyway) are very poorly thought out and the execution is worse. In the 30’s & 40 it was SSN great for a few year until the politicians starting. Then in the 60s by the Johnson administration poorly thought out under funded by billions. I don’t want to go on this rant. Needless to say we have to many losers in Washington, they don’t study their own history, so they keep repeating the same mistakes over and over. And they swear that this time will be different. The only thing that will be different will be less money in our pockets and more of our freedoms will be lost.
