Flag amendment introduced in House

Flag amendment introduced in House

An amendment giving Congress power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States., H.J. Res 47, was reintroduced in the House of Representatives this week by Reps. Spencer Bachus, R-Ala., and Dan Lipinski, D-Ill. The resolutions reads simple, “The Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States.”

The American Legion supports such an amendment through Resolution  272, passed during the 2012 National Convention in Indianapolis. The resolution states, in part, that The American Legion continue to urge the Congress of the United States to propose and approve an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would allow the Congress to prohibit the physical desecration of the Flag of the United States.”

Legion family members are urged to contact their representatives and ask them to sign on as co-sponsors of H.J. Res. 47. If they already are co-sponsors, please thank them for their support of the amendment.
