American Legion World Series players were presented with annual Legion Baseball awards following the 2013 American Legion World Series championship game.

Baseball awards:

  • George W. Rulon Player of the Year Anthony Harrold, first baseman for Brooklawn, N.J.
  • Rawlings Big Stick Award Anthony Bender, shortstop for Petaluma, Calif.
  • Louisville Slugger Batting Champion Anthony Harrold, first baseman for Brooklawn, N.J.; compiled a .529 batting average.
  • Dr. Irvin L. "Click" Cowger RBI Memorial Award Robert Busse, third baseman for Petaluma, Calif., had 14 RBIs.
  • Bob Feller Pitching Award Mike Shawaryn, pitcher for Brooklawn, N.J.; compiled 32 strikeouts between regionals and World Series tournaments.
  • James F. Daniel Jr. Memorial Sportsmanship Award Robbie Podorsky, second baseman for Gonzales, La.

The 2013 American Legion All-Tournament Team (players’ statistics were compiled from regionals and the World Series):

Pitcher: Joe O’Donnell, Wilmington

Pitcher: Mike Shawaryn, Brooklawn, N.J.

Pitcher: Jimmy Flatt, Petaluma, Calif.

Designated hitter: Weston Bryan, Petaluma, Calif.

First base: Anthony Harrold, Brooklawn, N.J.

Second base: Robert Podorsky, Gonzales, La.

Third base: Nick Cieri, Brooklawn, N.J.

Shortstop: Steven Linkous, Wilmington

Outfield: Collin Delaune, Gonzales, La.

Outfield: Tanner Tokunaga, Waipahu, Hawaii

It was by far the greatest experience a baseball fan of any age could endure. The City of Shelby, the American Legion, as well as all the volunteers(and there were many)right down to all the players, should look in the mirror and smile from ear to ear, 'cause it's only getting better every year. I love Legion Baseball, and now I love Shelby, NC as well. I would like to wish the Quinlan family all my love, for all they do, for all that do.
