Finally got a HF rig,

Forums:

Finally got me a radio which does HF, 21 years is a bit long. I have an IC-7100 and am currently learning it. I am using a RadioWorks Windom 80 antenna. For a tuner, I have a LDG AT-100ProII Autotuner and it works well with the 7100.

It will be nice to contact fellow TALARC members.

I would also like to contact someone about Navy/MarineCorp Mars. Need info on how to join and will need an elmer to assist getting me going.

Congrats! I would be happy to setup a skid with you for some HF rag chewing. I am also a Navy/Marine Corps MARS member so I can help answer your questions there too.

Best regards,

Doc,

I am looking for someone to help with the Mars. What do I need to do? What is required of me? On rag chewing, just let me know what freq and what time to be there on the net. I have everything up and running but the Vhf/Uhf Dstar. I am changing my coax and raising my antenna so I can get into the repeater much cleaner. The IC-7100 at night is so quiet and easy to hear. I do like it very much.

Howdy!
Type in Navy-Marine Corps MARS in your search engine and you will see the primary Navy-Marine Corps MARS website show up at the top of the list. Select that site. From there you can get answers to many questions including requirements to join and what you must do each month to stay a member. You will need HF abilities for MARS and be able to operate outside of the amateur radio bands as all MARS traffic is on frequencies above or below the ham bands.

For rag chewing I am usually on early in the morning around 7:30 AM for the Navy Amateur Radio Club net which is on 7.245 MHz. That is a directed net. After the net I will switch frequencies or bands and do some rag chewing. Afternoons vary. Evenings are usually MARS and other nets early on and then after that it is rag chews as time allows. What is your time table for rag chewing and on air time?

Best regards,
Doc
