We can only speculate as to the reason why some individuals waved Confederate flags at the rally, but please understand they only represent themselves and may not even be veterans.
The American Legion was not involved in this rally, held Oct. 13 at the World War II Memorial, nor did we endorse this event in any way. So please do not confuse the actions of some individuals with those of Legionnaires and members of other veterans service organizations who advocate and work on behalf of veterans, servicemembers and their families.
The actions of a few protesters should not be attributed to a general gathering of veterans and their supporters at the memorial.

  1. lLou, I wrote the same article to two so call friends in Tea Party. I mention to them I rather carry the American Flag as a a Veteran and also told them my supporters did not close down the Goverment

  2. Were they Americans or not, don't be red faced if you find out the north are still telling them how to live.

  3. I think the American Legion answered this question best, BUT, do we still have such a thing as "freedom of expression"?

  4. The Confederate flag of the American Civil War has simply become a symbol of rebellion for many reasons.. After all..."It's just a piece of cloth." Right.. Isn't that what some say the US Flag is.. They won't make a law to protect it from being burned, & some won't always put their hands over their heart, or salute it..
