Veterans Day Special Event Ops

Forums:

Congrats to those who contacted W9L via relay station KI0CW on Veterans Day. W9L was up and running but reception was severely limited at our downtown Indianapolis location. We were calling for stations running about 450 watts with a 1.3:1 SWR but with little to no copy – except for Bill in S.D. We are running a full system analysis to identify any actions that might be necessary. Apologies to those who tried to reach us. We did, however, have a number of calls on IRLP.
FYI, we did QSY from 14.277 to 14.272 MHz after one station contacted KI0CW to let him know that the frequency was being used in the Phillipines for emcomm operations.
President Marty, W9WMJ will have details in his next email report.

To TALARC & Marty Justice: On 14.277 at 14:40 I contacted relay station KI0CW Bill, in South Dakota for N9L. This was on Nov. 11, 2013 Veterans Day I was trying to contact W9L. Bill was 5-9 here and he heard me OK from Baltimore Maryland my home qth station and I was representing American Legion Post No. 180 Rosedale, MD. and Post No. 20 Hamilton, MD. who merged with 180. It sounded like a lot of rf in W9L's signal, I could hear you from Indianapolis, Indiana here in Baltimore but you were very weak and distorted. Anyway, please send me my certificate,I sent in the envelope. Eric Warthen is now our Chaplin, he said to say, "Hi" to Marty. Our new Commander is Mike Gilden. Thank You Ed Briggs KB3IKD
