What is The American Legion doing to get the disability/retirement offset repealed?

Answer:

The American Legion has over 350 resolutions that are legislative in nature, and they are all important to us. That said, we have 11 issues that we showcase on our priority “Drop Sheet”. Our Drop Sheet is the brochure that we give to Legionnaires to leave with their members of congress when they go to visit them. Featured on the Drop Sheet is the offset issue you mention. This has been on our priority list for a number of years, and I can assure you that it gets brought up with lawmakers several times per year. There are two bills in Congress right now – both which the Legion supports -- that address this issue; one by Congressman Bilirakis out of Florida, and one by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The Bilirakis bill has 84 cosponsors and the Reid bill has 20. I’m not sure what department you are from, but check to see if your Congress person and Senator are signed onto this bill as cosponsors. If not, get them to sign on.
