Thru rain or sleet or heat or snow,
the American Legion Honor Guard will go.

To perform their duties on command
in honor of all those who defended this land.

Their gesture of good deeds for the family bereaved
will bring comfort and closure to what they have achieved.

About the author:

Korean Veteran served from March 1952 thru June 1956. Currently the Historian for Post 59. In September 2008, the American Legion Post 59 in Dexter, MO organized an Honor Guard. The purpose of this was to participate in parades, conduct military funerals, and other occasions. I was so inspired by the wonderful task these men were doing in all kinds of weather that I found myself writting this poem. As of December 1, 2011 this Honor Guard has conducted 348 Military funerals.
