76 Freedom Car races for Legionnaires

American Legion/David law Firm 76 Freedom Car driver Jerick Johnson is returning home to Minnesota to compete at Elko Motor Speedway Aug. 27.

"It's going to be fun to get a chance to race back home," Johnson said. "And it's going to be fun to run fast and turn left for some of the Legionnaires at the National Convention in Minneapolis."

Johnson arrives in Elko touting six wins in the last nine starts at tracks in Tennessee, Georgia and Ohio. In his last race on Aug. 20, he finished seventh at Newport Motor Speedway in Tennessee. The Team Johnson Motorsports crew and 76 Freedom Car also made an appearance a week earlier at The American Legion Baseball World Series in Shelby, N.C.

In addition to his six victories this season, Johnson has accumulated 15 top-10 finishes and 12 top-five finishes in 19 starts. He hopes to add to his latest victories at Elko.

"We want to put on a good show for the Legionnaires," Johnson said. "This will be our best opportunity to race with so many Legionnaires in the stands. We are going to try to grab a checkered flag for them."

The Elko "Eve of Destruction" race event will give Legionnaires attending this year's national convention in Minneapolis the opportunity to see Johnson and The American Legion/David Law Firm 76 Freedom Car in action at no cost. Any American Legion member will be granted free admittance to the race by presenting their American Legion card.

Elko Speedway gates open at 5 p.m., with qualifying starting at 6 p.m.
