For many students, the opportunity to pursue higher education seems out of reach due to the rising cost of college tuition. But The American Legion works to ensure that children, whose parents died while on active-duty military service on or after Sept. 11, 2001, achieve their goal of attending college with the help of its Legacy scholarship.

Since 2004, The American Legion Legacy Scholarship has awarded a total of $145,970 to more than 40 students. The scholarship helps high school seniors preparing to attend college, or graduates working toward an undergraduate degree, with the expense of tuition, books, room and board, and supplies needed for college.

All eligible applicants can apply for the Legacy scholarship by downloading an application, which must be postmarked no later than April 15. For further questions regarding the scholarship, please contact Michael Novak at (317) 630-1212 or mnovak@legion.org.

My daughter is applying for schlorships, however, none seems to fit her. She will be graduating from Eleanor Roosevelt High School this year. I was the active duty sponsor(retired almost 3yrs ago). She has done outstanding in school, but according to our FAFSA, I make too much for her to eligible for any financial aid (except loans/work study). Could you advise on any other available schlorships she may be eligible for? V/r Terry D. Ferguson
