Vikings, Twins offer specials for Legion

Legionnaires attending the 2011 National Convention in Minneapolis have the opportunity to attend a Minnesota Twins baseball game and two Minnesota Vikings preseason football games at discounted prices.

Aug. 26 will be American Legion Family Night at Target Field, home of the two-time defending American League Central Division champion Twins. National Commander Jimmie L. Foster has been selected to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game.

Home Run Porch view seats are available for $22, $2 less than normal. Because of high demand, seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. To order tickets, click here and enter the password LEGION when prompted.

Visa, Mastercard and American Express are accepted. There is a convenience fee of $3 per ticket and a $3.50 order fee. Tickets can be mailed out or held at Will Call and available for pick-up at any Target Field ticket window or kiosk.

The tallest flagpole in the entrance to Target Field was provided to the Twins by Minneapolis/Richfield Post 435, the largest Legion post in Minnesota. The 50-year-old flagpole stood 90 feet tall (it has been cut down to 45 feet for Target Field) and had been a fixture at the post since it was taken from Metropolitan Stadium, which closed in 1981 when the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome opened.

The post purchased the flagpole for $150; in exchange for making it available to the Twins, Post 435 received a new flagpole and $10,000 for the post's Legion Baseball team.

"It's kind of a win-win situation all the way around," Post 435 Commander Craig Deneen told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

The Minnesota Vikings also are offering discounts for their preseason games against the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 27 and Houston Texans on Sept. 1. The deadline to order tickets is Aug. 12 for the Dallas game and Aug. 19 for the Houston game.

Tickets for seats in the upper level of Mall of America Field will be discounted to $20 per ticket; normal ticket prices are $50-$83 each (save up to $63)

Orders will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis with the best available tickets at the time the order is received. Quantities are limited, and there will be no refunds or exchanges unless the games are cancelled. To order, fill out this form and return it via mail or fax (612-333-0458) only. Tickets will be mailed out.
