Legion to continue printing Dispatch

Readers spoke. Editors listened. The printed Dispatch will continue into 2013.

Following an August announcement that the print edition of Dispatch would cease publication at the end of this year in effort to go digital, The American Legion received numerous responses about the decision. With that said, Dispatch will be available in both formats. Those who currently receive the printed Dispatch will continue to do so, but it will take on a new form, starting with the January issue. Instead of the current newspaper style, Dispatch will be reformatted into a succinct, colorful newsletter that informs readers and guides them to online services. Dispatch will continue to focus on news and information relevant to leadership, and it will still be mailed monthly.

To satisfy the Dispatch’s digital audience, the Legion has created:

  • A special web page, www.legion.org/dispatch, that will include updated news of high interest to department, district and post leadership. The pages will feature guides and materials to help officers manage their posts, fulfill consolidated post reports, increase membership, submit award entries and communicate with national headquarters.
  • A monthly e-newsletter that will provide a roundup of top headlines with clickable links to the stories on the new web page. To receive this e-newsletter, go to www.legion.org/subscribe.
