First session of 111th Congress opens

Dateline: Capitol Hill

On Jan. 6, the first session of the 111th Congress convened with the usual fanfare and ceremonies. The November elections expanded the Democrats’ number of seats in both chambers of Congress, making it easier for President-elect Obama to enact his legislative agenda.
