Departments: new membership incentive pays

In his closing remarks to the National Executive Committee Oct. 7 during the annual Fall Meetings in Indianapolis, American Legion National Commander Paul E. Dillard was excited to announce a new membership incentive for departments.

Any department that attains 103 percent of its 2022 membership goal and achieves at least a 90 percent retention rate will later receive $18.50 for each member dues transmitted over that 103 percent. Departments must meet both criteria – 103 percent membership and 90 percent retention – to qualify for this incentive. Meeting just one of these qualifiers does not count.

For purposes of this incentive, the membership counted will end on Oct. 1, 2022. You will still transmit dues as normal, but a check will be issued after everything is tallied up.

“I believe that we have many departments that can achieve this, but it will take some work, department leadership and personal contact,” Dillard said in his address to the National Executive Committee.

“So let’s get out there and do it.”
