Let’s keep the 100 Miles for Hope momentum going

Mitchell Keil signed up for the third annual 100 Miles for Hope after hearing me speak on the importance of participating in the fitness and wellness challenge – registrations and donations go directly to supporting disabled veterans and military families through The American Legion Veterans & Children Foundation. The 34-year-old Marine veteran and commander of Frank R. Stiles American Legion Post 125 in North Adams, Mass., surpassed his $1,500 fundraising goal. Additionally, he was the top fundraiser for May and received a 100 Miles for Hope shirt, autographed by Tony Kanaan. Each month the top fundraiser will receive a similar incentive. Congratualtions Mitchell!

The challenge has given Mitchell an opportunity to fundraise for a good cause and get active, and it also sparked an idea – to map a destination 100 miles from the post. His search led him to American Legion Post 414 in Sutton, Mass. This then led to a 100 Miles for Hope relay.

Post 125 members, including Mitchell, and family and friends will leave the post at 4 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, and arrive to Post 414 around 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14.

Mitchell said, “We (Post 125 members) have decided to show our area what determination can do. I’m excited to follow this story up with our trials, tribulations and successes of our first annual 100 Miles for Hope trek through western Massachusetts.”

It’s not too late to sign up for the 100 Miles for Hope challenge that runs through Labor Day, Sept. 5. Whether you participate in the challenge or make a donation, your support matters.

Together, we can meet  this year’s fundraising goal of $450,000. You can learn more about the third annual 100 Miles for Hope at    legion.org/100miles
