Education Symposium set for Aug. 26-27

The Post-9/11 GI Bill has given record numbers of men and women who’ve served since Sept. 11, 2001, the opportunity to go to college using education benefits that offer an unprecedented amount of financial aid. In turn, colleges and universities are looking for ways to help this new generation of veteran transition from military to college.

To help make this transition easier for all parties involved, The American Legion and Student Veterans of America have partnered to host the Veterans on Campus Symposium, a conference that invites student veterans, academia and members of the veterans community to Milwaukee, Aug. 26-27, to meet for a collaborative workshop. The event takes place in the Hilton Milwaukee Center, Wright Ballrooms A and B.

The two-day event, which coincides with the Legion’s annual national convention, will feature speakers from VA, the Legion, Student Veterans of America, the University of Wisconsin and other veterans organizations. Audience members will have a chance to participate, and panels will offer recommendations on how the academic outlook for student veterans can be improved. Accordingly, the symposium’s main focus is to bring together all the stakeholders in the servicembers’ transition to college and find ways to improve the lives of student veterans.
