The American Legion Post #7 of Buckhannon is excited to be working with the Buckhannon Upshur Middle School this year with the School Awards Medal Progam. We also have worked together with the counselors ( McCauley & Koury) at the Middle School to assist them in preparing a special Veterans Day program for the students to interact with the presentation of the meaning of the words of the Pledge of Allegiance, an essay contest with all participants being presented an certificate of participation from the American Legion, presenting the colors, play the bugle to the colors and present an American flag to the principal for those students who will be responsible for raising and lowering the flag on a daily basis at the Upshur County Middle School here in Buckhannon, WV. All of this will talke place in the month of November during an will include in class "service day presentation on citizenship class throughout the school prepared by the American Legion Post #7 and then the students will be the presenters at an assembly held on the 22nd of November for Veterans Day Program. Our goal is to have the students present a partiotic veterans program to the veteran members of their families and the school will invite local veteran organizations (i.e The American Legion, VFW and the DAV chapters) to join in this Vetarans Day Celebration. The principal of the school is Renee Warner. This ia great opportunity for us with both our Americanism and Children and Youth Week celebration here in Upshur County, WV.
