FODPAL post helps unveil Irish Vietnam memorial

American Legion posts' observance of Veterans Day is not limited to the United States. On Nov. 11, in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland, Fr. Francis P. Duffy Post IR-02 participated in the unveiling of a memorial dedicated to 29 men and one woman of Irish descent who died as a result of their service in Vietnam. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.

According to post commander Pat Mulcahy, who spoke at the ceremony, the post put together a 12-member honor guard that included a bugler and flag bearers.

The memorial, a project of the Irish Vietnam Veteran Memorial Project, sits in Ennis' Monastery Park. The Clare Herald's article on the unveiling includes several pictures of the Legion contingent; see them here.
