Department of Alaska provides $10,000 of OCW care items for Alaska VA Healthcare System

On Wednesday, May 3, American Legion Department of Alaska Legionnaires on behalf of Operation Comfort Warriors (OCW) presented $10,000 worth of health-care items and electronic items to the Alaska VA Healthcare System (AKVAHS) in Anchorage in a morning presentation attended by veterans, hospital officials, and Alaska Legionnaires. A highlight of the OCW grant was 20 new-baby bundles that will be presented to female veterans. The OCW covered purchases of health and hygiene items for use by indigent and homeless veterans being cared for by AKVAHS and three other locations in Alaska: Juneau, Fairbanks and Matsu-Wasilla. Additionally, musical instruments, books, magazines, chess/checker sets, and two Smart TVs with Blu-ray players were purchased and donated to the hospital for use in music therapy, veteran education classes and recreational events.
