Coming station Shiner Tx. Post 201

We have the go ahead, to get started on our own station, at Shiner Tx. post 201. We plan on having HF and vhf/uhf soon. We are also going to enable the local scouts to earn a badge in the process, by offering free ham courses, and getting them tested. Unfortunately we only have two of us "hams" at present, or we would get a club designation as well. Planned set up is a Yaesu 897, with LDG autotuner, 25amp switching power supply ran through a deep cycle marine battery or two, with a diode bridge to prevent unwanted backfeed. Antenna wise, we are planning a 80 meter windom OCF fed with a 4:1 balun, and maybe a Comet dual band vertical for the 2meter/440 side. If not I am going to build two "super J's" routed through a weatherproofed diplexer, mounted below the RF chokes of the "J's". Future additions will be a dedicated computer, with a usb tigertronics modem for the ability to utilize digital modes, such as Olivia, PSK, SSTV, MT63 and a few others.
