Good day everyone.
After the general post meeting this past week the newly formed Membership Committee met to discuss ways to bring in new membership. My wife and I were wearing our TALARC shirts and had our handhelds with us. Carrying a handheld is a great conversation starter by the way. They asked me what I thought we, as a post, could do to build membership and I brought up TALARC. They asked what is TALARC because none of them have ever heard of it. I know, it has been here on the website, minutes of the National Convention, and a few other places. I do not know if it was mentioned in the Legion magazine or not after that convention. I promptly passed out the TALARC brochures that I received from K9TAL. Well, turns out that one of the current members of the post is a former amateur radio operator and he wants to get his license back. Membership committee approved the creation of a post amateur radio club. Next step, bring it up for a vote at the next month's general meeting for a vote. Since we are not asking for any money or changes to be made, I am confident that it will pass. I laid out a goal, vision statement, and strategy already. Those I will present at the general meeting next month.
I just thought I would pass that along as many other posts are working on creating a club too. It took a year to get to this point but it was well worth it.

Updated....
At the general membership meeting last night it was approved to add an amateur radio club to the post. There was also discussion about adding a tower, radio room, and equipment. It will not be a short process but it will be a fulfilling process. But first, we must recruit and train.

What a great decision by the membership! I suspect the tower alone will attract new members wondering what it's all about.

Thank you Bill. The tower will do that. After further discussion at a Soup Supper that we would not use the term "Club" as we already belong to TALARC. Instead we will be a program or group with a post station that is part of TALARC.

Let me clarify the wording. At a soup supper, several Legion family members (Auxiliary, Post, & SAL) said that creating a club within a club was confusing. Therefore it was decided to use the word program or group. This will be further discussed over the next few weeks as we recruit.
