Veterans Day in Clovis, N.M.

By Lee Trask Veterans Day 2014: I was in Clovis, N.M., and asked both American Legions to let me set up. They said sure, but what's amateur radio? It gave me the time and opportunity to speak as a goodwill rep for ham radio and TALARC, which they had no idea about. And I also became the first to activate on the air (American Legion post on the air - as I nicknamed it - AMLOTA). Post 25 at 12:36 MTN time using my call W1LWT, and Post 117 at 1410 with my remote groups call K1AOM. These are a few basic pictures of today's setup. A lawn tractor battery borrowed for today. IC706 mk2g, working at 50 watts.and LDG 4:1 balun with 16g extension cord wire at 50 foot long, folded connected at the end and bent to a inverted V on a telescopic 31-foot pole, and one wire at 25 foot for a counterpoise on the ground. This is a completely ECOMM setup, portable and it works. Simple, fast and OTA. Lee Trask W1LWT@arrl.net
