Gen. George S. Patton's 3rd Army liberated the city of Pilzen, Czech Republic, in the spring of 1945. During the 60th-anniversary commemoration, the city elected to remember Patton with a foundation stone. But the statue of Patton was canceled by the city of Pilzen because the builder, Jaroslav Bocker, had collaborated with Communist secret police during the Cold War.
The American Legion is thriving in the Department of Puerto Rico. A number of posts conduct events, help the community, and provide companionship and remembrance for one another and those who came before.
Post AU01 in Sydney, Australia, held its 28th annual Pearl Harbor Day in the city of Bankstown (a suburb of Sydney). Sponsors of this event were Post AU01, the City of Bankstown and the Bankstown sub-branch of the Returned and Services League of Australia (RSL), Australia’s largest veterans association.
