Legion departments cancel Youth Cadet Law Enforcement programs

There are 21 American Legion departments that have a Youth Cadet Law Enforcement program, which provides high school youth with firsthand experiences and insight into the operations of law enforcement agencies.

Several of these departments have canceled their summer program due to the times we are in with the coronavirus. The way in which COVID-19 may spread, and its duration, cannot be predicted, which has led to these early cancellations.

Departments that have been known to cancel their program include Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Georgia, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Virginia and Wisconsin.

If you have not done so already, please let American Legion National Headquarters know if your department has canceled your Youth Cadet Law Enforcement program, or if you decide in the future to cancel. Please email American Legion Youth Programs Manager Todd Burris at tburris@legion.org.

Other National American Legion programs have been canceled for 2020 due to COVID-19. These currently include:

- 75th session of American Legion Boys Nation (scheduled for July 17-25 in Washington, D.C.)

- American Legion Junior Shooting 3-Position Air Rifle National Championship (scheduled for July 21-26 in Colorado Springs, Colo.)

- American Legion Baseball National Regional tournaments and World Series in Shelby, N.C.
