Any claim from N Korea should be taken seriously. We should act to determine (if we don't already know) how valid the claim is and take appropriate actions to protect ourselves and our allies from the treat presented. The idea that we could put sole focus on any one issue it todays world is unrealistic; we need to keep attention on all fronts.

I was in Korea @ they should be taken seriously. Not as much as ISIS, because we are fighting them right now. We should keep an eye N.K.

Bush made a big mistake when he ordered the invasion of Iraq. The evidence for WMD was fabricated but the evidence for nuclear threat in North Korea was real and continues to grow. We need to take a more aggressive course of action against terrorism in all of it's forms whether it is mass killings, suicide bombers, chemical, biological, or nuclear.

Dan49: I'm sorry to tell you this but your information is incorrect or at the very least out of date. History ended up proving that Bush's statement that Iraq had WMD's was indeed a fact. Look it up. Additionally, Bill Clinton went before Congress in December of 1998 and stated that Saddam Hussein was a threat to the security of the United States due to his stock pile of Weapons of Mass Destruction. Unfortunately, the fabrication is on the part of the main stream media that perpetuate the lie that there never were WMD's in Iraq.

Brett,

What offical sources are you quoting that prove, based on in country investigations by qualified individuals, that Iraq had WMD? Or did you pick this up from some unverified internet source? Or did Rush Limbaugh spout this during one of radio blasts?

No fella, you are mistaken. Reliable sources like the UN and the US searched and found no yellow cake, no Nuke material, no chemical weapons, no chemical weapons mobile labs, no involvement with 9-11, and no biological capabilities. Time to get your facts right before you expose your lack of knowledge and tendency to believe what people say without vetting what you hear.

I heard somewhere that Sadam (I think he was the leader of Iraq) had used gas to kill his own people. Is that considered weapons of mass destruction? I can't vet this other than the news reports an photos of dead babies being cuddled by their dead mother?

Bob,
Search "WMD in Iraq". USNews and World Report and The NY times both reported it. Screaming liberals chose to ignore the facts.

Hydrogen or fission, either way it's something to be vigilant about. However, just as with Daesh, to ratchet up any rhetoric would just play into North Korea's hands. Kim Jung Un wants attention . I believe we should keep our comments low-key, but quietly collaborate with friends and allies in the region to counter his aggrandizement.

Every time something happens in the world the powers that be figure a way for the U.S. to spend more money on defense. ISIS is costing the country millions of dollars. NK which is a paper tiger is costing us millions. Every place on earth is costing us millions. Look at all of the other major world economies and they don't spend anywhere near what we spend on defense and they all have access to the world's natural resources without calling it "in their national interest" and sending in their military.

I believe in a strong defense and I believe that there are things that are in our national interest. What I don't believe is that every time some rogue tyrant blows his nose we should spend billions on a new defense system. I guess Chicken Little got it right when it comes to the people controlling our defense dollars. The sky is always falling.

Oh, Iraq did not have WMD. However I can understand why W thought they did. The Reagan administration gave them the seeds and capability to produce them. I guess we were lucky that they chose not to. You must remember. Sadam was one of our chosen (ask Iran) until he got out of line and wanted to sell oil in Euros.

North Korea can have all the thermonuclear warheads it wants, so long as Washington makes sure North Korea has no delivery system for them. I can have all the pebbles I want, but without a slingshot those pebbles are not a lethal threat.

Well Bob you must have missed the part about the Kurds being gassed and the stock piles of weapons that were found and lost after the war ended. shipped to Syria

Submitted by mike Kelly (not verified) : Dec 10, 2015 7:51pm

The Kurds were gassed in 1988 before the first Gulf War. We destroyed all of Saddam's WMD's after that war.
You people are imagining things if you think WMD's were found in Irag after the second Gulf War or that they were sent to Syria.
If that was true Bush-Cheney Faux News and the far right would have been screaming it everywhere to try and prove their point.

Funny, my 2nd cousin was a Cav Scout in GW-2 and his unit found 130 & 152mm artillery shells filled and about to be filled with chemical agents in an ammo dump, some on pallets ready to be delivered to firing batteries but abandoned when the Cav unit over-ran them. Did the Big 3 news media film it? Nope, cause no Americans were killed. A Fox crew tried to get there but their vehicle broke down enroute so the munitions were destroyed in place and the unit moved on. Some of the 152mm shells had manufacturing dates from the early 90's to as late as 2000. Sure doesn't sound like they were all destroyed. As to what happened to the stocks in the north of Iraq, why wouldn't loyalists hide them in Syria, an ally at the time?

Whenever North Korea needs money they start their saber rattling to get attention. They may be radical but they are not stupid. They know full well that they would be wiped off the face of the earth if they ever did had one and used it.

Since WWII The United States has given, given, and given to other countries and we have only taken some ground to bury our dead in some of those countries. Other countries have taken advantage of our open arms and now some want to bury US! It's time we circled the wagons with our closest allies and begin to take care of ourselves, or we all will be destroyed. The industries have left us, the top selling cars are foreign and there are more Mexicans LEAVING this country than are entering. Let's not forget that our economy is on pins and needles, including Social Security and some private pension plans. Haven't you heard that assault weapons "jumped" off of the shelves during Black Friday. Now, if we could just convince our politicians!
