Legion post’s tank makes cover of Sports Illustrated

Sports Illustrated magazine’s 2015 March Madness cover featured 7-foot University of Wisconsin basketball team forward Frank Kaminsky above the title “Frank the Tank.” Inside the magazine, on the table of contents page, the massive player is shown standing in the snow in his Badgers uniform, while a bundled-up photographer, Todd Rosenberg, and a light technician work to get the photo just right on the grounds of American Legion Post 360 in Waunakee, Wis. Below-freezing temperatures didn’t bother Kaminski, who posed for a half-hour for the photo. The American Legion post is identified in a caption on the cover of the issue.

The 1978-built M60A3 Main Battle Tank on the property originally saw duty with the Wisconsin National Guard, 1st BN 632D Armor, Wisconsin National Guard. A descendant of the M47 and M48 Patton tanks of World War II, the M60A3 was manufactured between 1960 and 1991 before it was replaced by the M1 Abrams tank.
