Washington County Courthouse Veterans Memorials

Washington County Courthouse Veterans Memorials

Several different monuments stand in front of the Washington County Courthouse. The largest consists of two identical monuments done in the Art Deco style featuring the “Four Freedoms" popularized by President Franklin D. Roosevelt: Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom from Want and Freedom from Fear. At a later date, an identical monument was installed to honor those who served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Additionally, there is a smaller granite marker dedicated on May 16, 1985, to those Korean and Vietnam veterans who served, who died and who are missing. There is also a granite bench installed by the Pennsylvania Department of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Auxiliary on June 20, 1938. It honors Union veterans of the Civil War (Grand Army of the Republic).
