Joseph Shanahan

Joseph Shanahan

We remember Joseph Shanahan of East Patchogue, N.Y., a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps who served in Europe as a bombardier/gunner on B-17 aircraft. He was a longtime member of The American Legion and reported to Post Everlasting on Sept. 8, 2013, at 93. Full burial honors were rendered by Post 269 of Patchogue, N.Y.

He was the last of the "greatest generation" in our family. Following his Army Air Corps service, for whaich he received the Distinguished Flying Cross, he worked in the aviation industry on Long Island, N.Y., and in retirement served as a prison chaplain in Florida. He lived comfortably in his later years in a retirement residence in Patchogue with his lovely wife Harriet. He is survived by his wife, children Linda, David and Peter, and many grandchldren and great-grandchildren. May he rest in peace.
