Murray D. Blackwell

Retired Master Sgt. Murray D. Blackwell passed away May 19, 2014, in Montgomery, Ala. He had celebrated his 90th birthday last December. He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen, and sons Robert and Richard Blackwell and their families. Blackwell bravely served in World War II in the tank division and was at the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he continued his military service at Air Force bases around the country, including in Louisiana, Colorado and Alaska. He dedicated his life to serving his country and the U.S. Air Force. After retiring from the service he continued working at the air base in Selma, Ala., and then Montgomery, overseeing the transportation department. For his last 30 years, Murray lived on his beloved lakefront home outside Selma where he spent his retirement fishing, traveling, sharing stories with friends and family, and overseeing the care of his beautiful property. As his son Richard said at the memorial, his father loved the Air Force, friends and family. Murray will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
