Frank D. Jr., 84, of Emerson, N.J., passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 8, at Valley Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Frank was born in New York City and was a resident of Emerson, N.J. for 54 years. After an accomplished semi-professional baseball career pitching for teams in Albany, N.Y., and Goldsboro, N.C., Frank served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1953.
On his return from Korea he began attending the City College of NY where he obtained his master's degree in physical education. He was soon employed by the college and went on to coach numerous baseball and fencing teams until his retirement. He had a particular passion for fencing, and during his tenure as fencing coach he had the pleasure of coaching two CCNY fencers to become All-Americans.
After his retirement Frank enjoyed creating custom-made knives and swords as well as re-finishing furniture and woodworking.
He also was a member of the United Methodist Church Choir, and sang with the Orpheus Group of Ridgewood, N.J.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Lucille (née Culp) and their children, Christopher and his wife Dawn Seeley, Lisa and her husband Richard Giannone, and Beth Anne and her husband Robert Schmitt.
He is also survived by their grandchildren: Kelly John, Vincent, Grace, Christopher Jr, Emily Anne and Morgan Faye. The family received relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home in Westwood, N.J., on Dec. 11. Service on Dec. 12 at the funeral home with interment following at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, N.J.
