Elden “Toppy” Theobald, 74, of Houston, Minn., died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.
Elden was born Feb. 20, 1940, in Freeburg, Minn., to Paul D. and Selina M. (St. Mary) Theobald. He was raised in Freeburg and Caledonia and graduated from Loretto High School in 1958. In June 1962 he enlisted in the Army and served our country until being discharged in 1968. Joan and Toppy raised four children. He married Celia Jergenson on Nov. 11, 1988. Toppy worked in heating and air conditioning his entire life. He was self-employed for over 40 years, and still working hard in his 70s. Toppy was a member of American Legion Gittens-Leidel Post 595 in La Crescent.
He is survived by his wife, Celia Theobald of Houston, and her children and grandchildren; his children, Paul (Tammy), Bruce (Stacy), Mary (Art) and Lynda (Jerry); grandchildren, Rachel, Jacob, Timothy (Kristal), Tyler (Erica), Michelle (Elliot), Shannon, Marie, Heather and Eric; and great-granddaughter, Mia. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tom Theobald.
Memorial Mass Jan. 20, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Houston with Fr. Pratap Reddy Salibindla officiating. Full military honors provided by Post 595 followed the service.
