Henry Ernest Boldizsar
8/1/1919 - 2/15/2015
Henry Ernest "Hank" Boldizsar, 95, died Sunday in his home in Corvallis. He was born in Detroit to Julius and Valeria (Szabo) Boldizsar. He completed his education in Detroit in electrical engineering and drafting at Cass Tech and graduated with honors in January 1937. The family moved to Southern California in September that same year, where Hank completed his studies at the Hollywood Sound Institute majoring in sound projection engineering. Hank worked for 45 years in the motion picture industry in theaters and studios in the Los Angeles-Hollywood area and retired in 1984 from United Artists Theaters. He was a gold card member of the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees (I.A.T.S.E.).
Hank and Roberta became engaged on Thanksgiving Day 1940. At the beginning of World War II, Hank went to Fort Monmouth, N.J., to train as a radio-radar technician for the U.S. Army. On July 1, 1942, Hank departed the USA for the European Theater of Operations and did not return home until November 1945. On Dec. 15, 1945, he and Roberta were married in Glendale, Calif., at the Little Church of the Flowers. Their marriage lasted nearly 60 years. He was preceded in death by Roberta in 2005
Hank was an avid reader and enjoyed discussing the politics of the day. He had a quick wit and great sense of humor. He planted a garden every summer and delighted in eating homegrown tomato sandwiches. He was also very generous and donated to many charities. Hank was definitely one of the "Greatest Generation."
Surviving family includes Hank's son Terry and his wife Terrie, their son Matthew and his wife Ketura, and daughter Lisa and her husband David. Also Hank's son Gary and his wife Denise, their son Gavin and his wife Jeane, and son Todd and his wife Megan. Hank also had nine great-grandchildren whom he adored.
