Rueben O. Johnson

Rueben O. Johnson, 95, of Fargo, N.D., formerly of West Fargo and Colfax, N.D., passed away Dec. 21, 2014, at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo. Rueben Orton Johnson was born on Nov. 7, 1919, at Dwight, N.D., to Arthur C. and Mary (Chistopherson) Johnson. He went to school in the Dwight and Galchutt, N.D., area. He married June O. Isackson on Sept. 15, 1940. June passed away in 2012; they had been married 72 years.
He was a World War II Army veteran, spending 1944-1945 in Europe where he earned the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster for Heroic Achievement in Battle, the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the European-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge and the WWII Honorable Service Lapel Button. He was a member of Galchutt American Legion Post 282 for 69 years, was a past commander and was the last of the original charter members. He was a member of the West Fargo VFW, the C.C.C.'s, and served on the church council of the Galchutt Lutheran Church and the Faith Lutheran Church of West Fargo, where he was currently a member.
He farmed most of his life and also started/owned the Johnson Insurance Agency. He enjoyed farming, bowling, time with family, visiting with friends, trips to California and Las Vegas, and spending winters in Arizona and summers at East Lost Lake in Minnesota.
He is survived by daughters, Judy (Gary) Sumpter of Pelican Rapids, Minn.; Renee (Joe) Speidel of Wahpeton, N.D.; daughter-in-law, Jackie Johnson of Liberty, Mo.; seven grandchildren: Thom Johnson, Tami Bartram, Jennifer Bartholomew, Todd Johnson, Jodi Nielson, Stacy Osborn and Megan Halstenson; three step-grandchildren, Shelley Ugarte, Kyle Speidel and Casey Foltz; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters-in-law, Erma Johnson, Pearl Lee and Lois Zarling, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, June; son, Bruce; three brothers, Chester, Marvin and Glenn; two half-brothers, Wesley and Vernon; great-grandson, Matthew Johnson, and his son-in-law, Gary Halstenson.
