H. Gilbert Perkins

Henry Gilbert Perkins passed away Feb. 22, 2015, at 92 after a brief illness. He was born in Winder, the son of the late Erastus and Ruth McElroy Perkins. He fought in the Pacific Theater during World War II with the 650th Engineer Battalion, receiving a Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with three Bronze Stars & Bronze Arrowhead, American Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. He fought in the Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea and Luzon campaigns.
Gilbert returned to Barrow County, Ga., and married the love of his life, Geneva Ann Lovin. They were married for 65 years at the time of her death in 2012. He worked in agribusiness until retirement, becoming a top salesman for Royster Fertilizer and Georgia AgChem. He was also a Mason for 65 years.
Survivors include sons David and Dana Perkins of Winder; and daughter Peggy Perkins Poole of Winder; four grandsons and six great-grandchildren.
