Clifford R. Brown

Clifford R. Brown, 90, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, at his home. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Louise Burtner Brown, who died April 15, 2013, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Clifford was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Mechanicsburg to the late Charles and Dora Smith Brown.
One of the greatest examples of the Greatest Generation, Cliff was a lifelong resident of Mechanicsburg. He was a graduate of Mechanicsburg High School, Class of 1942, and the East Stroudsburg State Teachers College, Class of 1949. He retired as a manager, with 30 years of service, from the former Lemoyne Frozen Food Center and retired from the SPCC Naval Supply Depot. Cliff was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mechanicsburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 70th Infantry Division in Europe. Cliff was the recipient of a Battlefield Commission, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, three campaign battle stars and a Battalion Unit Citation. His story was the story of America and Mechanicsburg.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Terry R. (Judy) Brown of Columbia, Md., and his daughter, Sue Ann (John) Petry of Clark Summit, Pa. Also surviving are four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his sister, Isabelle Forshey of Martinsburg, Pa.
