William A. Hudson

William A. Hudson died peacefully at home on Sept. 11, 2015.
Born in New York City in 1925, Hudson joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for action on Iwo Jima. After World War II he received BS and MA degrees in health and physical education from New York University.
Hudson came to New Mexico in 1949 and taught in the Los Alamos schools for 33 years as a physical educator and swimming and cross country coach. After he retired from teaching, he had a successful career as a financial consultant with Waddell and Reed
Always an athlete, Hudson competed at the local, state and national level in the Senior Olympics in swimming, track and field, triathlon and weightlifting.
Active in numerous community activities including the Los Alamos Rotary Club, he was instrumental in organizing the Los Alamos Triathlon more than 40 years ago. He was honored as a Los Alamos Living Treasure, and was recently inducted to the Los Alamos High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
A lifelong learner, besides physical fitness activities, his interests included lecturing on World War II and military history, and supporting a small library in Abiquiú.
His wife, Maureen, preceded him in death, as did his first son William J. Hudson. He is survived by his brother Robert Hudson, (Orangeburg, N.Y.), sister Pearl Hudson, (Virginia Beach, Va.), son Arthur Lloyd Hudson (Los Alamos, N.M.), daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Ken Parker, (Sechelt, BC), son and daughter-in-law Ty and Debra Hudson, (Rio Rancho, N.M.), daughter-in-law Carol Hudson (Angel Fire, N.M.), and grandson Nathan Hudson (Lake Jackson, Texas).
