David J. Swatek, 90, of Venice, Fla., died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Chicago on Sept. 2, 1925, to Richard and Esther Swatek.
When he was nine months old, the family moved to Moose Lake near Hayward, Wis., where his parents ran a resort called Fin and Feather. At 17, David Joined the Merchant Marines. In 1950 he enlisted in the Army, where he was stationed in Korea and Japan.
He married Alice Bausch on Nov. 7, 1954. The couple lived in Hayward for many years where David worked as a postal clerk, before retiring in 1984 to Englewood, Fla., and finally to Village on the Isle.
David was a lifetime member of The American Legion and 40 & 8. He also was active in the Englewood Elks Club and his churches.
David will be dearly missed by his daughter, Susan (Brian) Thompson of Eau Claire, Wis.; son-in-law, Brett Haise of Madison, Wis.; grandchildren, Dan (Jessica), John, Rachel, Amanda and Garrett; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Alice; his daughter, Sandra Haise; his parents; and his brother, Richard Swatek.
